Penalties for Theft Crimes in Saudi Law

Theft crimes in Saudi law include different penalties depending on the type and nature of the crime according to the Saudi Penal Code.

These penalties include imprisonment, financial fines, and compensation for the victim, taking into account aggravating and mitigating circumstances.

In case of petty theft valued at less than 1000 riyals, the penalty is imprisonment for a period ranging from one to three years with a financial fine ranging from 1000-5000 riyals.

In case of ordinary theft, the penalty is imprisonment for a period ranging from three to five years.

In case of theft accompanied by aggravating circumstances such as using a weapon, violence, or nighttime theft, the penalty may reach imprisonment for a period ranging from five to ten years with a financial fine ranging from 10000-50000 riyals.

Appropriate compensation is imposed for the victim for material and moral damages suffered, with the possibility of ordering the return of stolen items or compensation for their value.

The thief may also be prohibited from residing in the area where the crime occurred for a specified period.
